I think language of new media is part of communication and culture, without it, society wouldn't be the same, this is the way language evolve's in order to fit into it's role as a means of communication. However casual, language of new media is very much a part of culture. In this way at least, language of new media doesn't serve to corrupt language and culture, if anything it helps enhance communication between culture's with a little less punctuation involved.
